MAGAZINE REVENUE

how are magazines funded commercially?
Revenue
Magazines receive revenue from:
circulation (cover price - £5.25 for MOJO in 2017)
advertising (in MOJO, mostly live or recorded music, with some fashion advertising, some

mass advertising

- cross-promotion for other Bauer brands, such as empire

- sponsored content and product placement, for example, 'Mojo listens to all its music on Roksan equipment'.

How do they use different funding models to generate income?

The print magazine industry is suffering from falling advertising revenues and falling circulations as many of their audience go online. Their response has been to diversify as much as possible – events are a good example of this – and to move magazines online.

Is the media product selling itself to its audience, e.g. through use of promotional material? Through advertisments
They give you a free CD with the magazine so the audience may want to buy it because of the things they include in it. Also on the side of the magazine it show its website which can further promote them as a magazine and attract more people as social media and the internet is a very used thing now. Their website includes articles, competitions, tickets and their store. this can allow the audience to be involved with mojo.

What’s online? What’s available to audiences? How does it engage with different people?Who does this target? What’s the advantage of having this platform?

There is a mojo website, which is located on the spin of the magazine. On the website there is a many things for the target audience to look at and enjoy. There is articles, magazines, competitions, tickets, store, newsletters, win and subscribe. The website includes a lot of this for the audience to get involved with such as the competitions and winning things, it allows them to get the chance to win CDs, records, albums , festive and concert tickets etc. There's also a store section where people can buy different merchandise of their favourite artists and bands. This can attract a younger target audience as they are the range of people who are more likely to use the internet and social media. Mojo also has a twitter and Facebook page which can allow the audience to be involved with the magazine and their favourite artists and music even more. Twitter and Facebook are very popular social media platform and will therefore attract many more younger audiences, aswell as the main target audience of 45-54 years old.  An advantage of using social media and the internet is that it's a lot more used in this day and age, rather then CDs and records which are no longer used by everyone.

WHY do online subscriptions help with revenue? (Think about people having access to them on their phones, tablets etc)
WHO is the demographic of the younger target audience? (Remember to access those higher marks you need to try and explore the demographic of the TA)
